For me, working with clay allows me to be present in the moment and quiet my mind. I can throw pieces or carve designs into clay for hours and forget about the stresses of the outside world. There's nothing quite like starting with a simple ball of clay and being able to make whatever you want with it. When you step back and look at what you have created there is an immense sense of pride, knowing that you have made that from scratch.
I have been making pottery on the wheel since 2020 and have been developing my skills and work along the way. My pieces aspire to bring warmth and interest to your home. I wish for my work to be admired. For people to explore the tactile ridges of my carvings, observe the movement of my designs and discover the depth of my glazes. Carving into the surface of the clay is one of my favourite parts of the process. It's freeing to be able to enhance the shape in any way I want, to start with just a rough idea of a carving and to fill in the details however I'm inspired to and end up with something completely unique.
I have recently started offering pottery lessons and experiences in my studio in the heart of the Brecon Beacons. It is so rewarding to be able to pass on my knowledge to other people and see them experience the joy and mindfulness of working with clay.
