Esther Ley
Esther is an artist maker with over 25 years experience making and teaching fine art and ceramics. Graduating in 1998 with a BA (hons) in Ceramics, her practice is very firmly grounded in participation, community and collaboration. Her own work is eclectic and generally has a social commentary element. She explores themes using sketchbooks, paintings, ceramic decals, mouldmaking, and handbuilding methods, and using experimental firings such as Raku.
Esther has been involved in many community projects, most recently an arts, heritage and chemistry project funded by the Royal Society of Chemistry. Working alongside Swansea University and involving participants from various groups making over 200 small crucibles. She also developed a project called Flotilla with Parc Howard Museum in Llanelli, marking the centenary of the end of the 1st World War.
Esthers work has been exhibited in Mission Gallery Swansea, Tides Fine Art Mumbles, Oriel Science, Volcano Theatre, National Waterfront Museum and Pontardawe Arts Centre.
