Sally Richmond
My main inspiration is drawn from the landscape and environment where I live in the Preseli hills of Pembrokeshire. I walk a lot, on local footpaths and follow worn tracks across the moor and hills in all seasons. I aim to express a sense of place and belonging whilst referencing through detail the impact of wear and tear on self and landscape against the layers of growth and change that build up over time. I experiment with different clay combinations; porcelain paper clay with terracotta inlay and stoneware clay with porcelain and terracotta rim. I paint and mark using oxide, slip, sgraffito and print processes.
