Alison Powell
Nature and the countryside have always been an inspiration for my work. Local wildlife and, in particular, hares and foxes have been particular favourites. Initially I worked on brooches and coasters made from white earthenware clay. This provided me with a clean canvas to apply a mix of under glaze colours to capture the colour and tones in the animals fur.
More recently, I have been working with earthstone cranks clay to make Hare Sculptures. Each piece I make is unique as I model the features and stance of each animal I make. The Hares look interesting individually, in pairs and equally in small groups.
I have always enjoyed working with clay and studied Ceramics at Howard Gardens, Cardiff in the early 90s. From there I taught Art for 17 years. Following redundancy from Teaching in 2011, I moved to Monmouth to be closer to family. Working part time, I have more time to make my own work. Over the years I have continued to develop my work as I explore new ideas and tecniques. You can see other examples of my work on my facebook page.
