Gill Pittman
I have made ceramics all my life, but took it up more seriously after retiring from General Practice in 2007, and now make ceramic wall plaques for wall hanging or tiling into walls.
My work is decorative, with themes including figures, animals and landscapes real and imaginary. The plaques are hand built and carved, and I then make a plaster mould and slip cast just a few further versions using different materials and glazes, so they are all unique.
I work in earthenware, stoneware and porcelain and also combine fusing glass with porcelain in some pieces, such as the Three Ships you can see in the gallery. I fire in an electric kiln and the pieces are about 30x45 cm, except the Magic City which is in three pieces 69x56 cm overall. I have also worked on mosaics, creating a 120cm diameter table called Tree of Life as a project with local primary school children near my home in the Gower to commemorate the Queens Diamond Jubilee. You can see this and further examples of the plaques on my website.
