Sue Lavender

I discovered clay in my mid-twenties, after experimenting with a range of art forms. I immediately enrolled for a number of evening courses and have been hooked ever since. In 2003, with my family, I moved to New Zealand where I was lucky enough to work with a number of renowned NZ potters. In 2015, the wheel turned full circle and I returned to the UK, setting up my studio at our home in mid-Wales. I have undertaken commissions and exhibited in numerous exhibitions, both in NZ and the UK, and my work is in many private collections around the world. I get my inspiration from nature and many of my pieces are organic in form. I enjoy hand-building, like to incorporate natural fibres into the clay and pieces are often finished with earthy oxides. I use stoneware or porcelain clay and fire to 1200 degrees.
