Two of my favourite things are pottery and gardening, the challenge of joining these two passions together has led me to making sculptural pieces for the garden. The birdbaths, sundials, large jardinires, planters and also the more abstract sculptural pieces I make are all in frost proof high fired clay. Some of them are glazed all over, whilst others are partially glazed showing the original clay body in the unglazed areas of the pottery piece, thus contrasting the matt clay interestingly with the shiny glaze. Each piece is individually designed, sometimes with a particular garden in mind. As each piece is slightly different from any made previously I am able to add favourite flowers or motifs depending on what the customer particularly likes.
At the same time as making individual pieces I am very aware of cost so I keep my prices down to a minimum. It is a long time since I was first introduced to clay and its fantastic potential. This initial love affair led to a complete career change for me - from being a childrens nurse to being a pottery teacher. Now forty years later, and working in my own studio the love affair continues. Commissions are welcomed.
