Originally from Belgium, I started working for a production pottery in West Wales in 1997, continued in the Republic of Ireland in 1999 and moved back to South Wales in the summer of 2000 to set up my own studio.

From the start, I've always been fascinated with functional ware, working inproduction has given me a sound training and confidence in setting up and going about creating a personal product. The past two years have been a process of testing the water.

I have changed the stoneware for porcelain and am firing all my work to a high temperature in an electric kiln.

Although the emphasis is on function and practicality, I enjoy making big, one-off pieces that are also very decorative and more technically challenging. I avoid 'pumping out' production work and repeating the same designs again and again by working in series and focussing on a particular finish.Ultimately, the glaze fit will differentiate two pieces.

I use a glossy, transparent glaze on the inside of the work, a copper green on the outside. Everything is dipped.

The combination of wooden lids or base (which are made to measure) came about naturally, a question of practicality again. They accentuate the organic feel and individuality of each pot.

I am taking part in the Contemporary Ceramics Fair at Tredegar House for the second time and will be showing my work at Hatfield House as a member of SWP this year.
