I love classical form, its balance and harmony. But I also like to tweak it off balance and give my tea pots and jugs character. I like my pots to be useful, to have clarity of form, sculptural presence and a feeling of potential movement. Attention to detail and truth to the material and process is also important in my work. Each piece I make is a development from its predecessors, thereby common elements run through my work. My recent work has been inspired by geometric forms, the cone, sphere and cylinder; and they have become the basis for my vessels.

I use a white high fired stoneware clay body to makesections which are wheel thrown and then altered by hand and assembled. Teapots for example are formed from a separate base, body, top, and spout which are thrown and joined. Other pieces, for example lips, feet and some spouts are made from press-moulds, slab forms and extrusionso After bisque firing to 1000C, they are sprayed or dipped with glazes specially chosen to complement the form and to 'break' on the edges of the pots, or one glaze is sprayed over another, through wax resist stencils, creating subtle textural changes. They are then fired to 1260°C in an electric kiln.
