I specialise in individual hand-made ceramic lamps and other ceramic items. Due to the process involved every item is guaranteed to be unique.
Some are thrown complete, others can be made as high as five feet by constructing them out of individually thown "cannon balls" that are threaded onto a hand turned wooden base to complete the item.
The lamps are earthenware and include a range of abstract forms reminiscent of the sea, hand-painted using a tin glaze, mainly in cobalt blues and copper greens in the traditional Italian and French majolica style. We also glaze pure colours such as cornflower blue, burnt sienna and deep green.
Monmouth Pottery is best known for producing traditional Japanese raku fired lamps using a wood-fired kiln. After the items have been fired they are cooled in a reduced atmosphere container which leads to the unusual lustrous copper effect seen in the photographs.
I also accept commissions for individually thrown lamps to match your interior design, and will also make other commemorative ceramic items to order.
