Being largely self-taught in the field of ceramics I love the versatility of clay and the straightforward, direct process of hand building into various sculptural forms whether complex or not with only the need for simple tools. I enjoy the feel of clay and the possibilities it offers for so many different surfaces and textures. At first, I felt intimated by the “science” of glazing but now experiment more freely and relish the somewhat unpredictable results that occur.
Many of my sculptures are based on abstractions of female anatomy linked to notions of sexuality. Currently, I am pursuing a rather traditional theme exploring more pot like forms decorated with the female dancers inspired by Minoan art. Other works are simply based on interpretations of natural forms.
