About South Wales Potters

South Wales Potters is one of the largest groups of professional and hobby potters and ceramicists in the UK.
We have more than 100 members, based in South, Mid and West Wales, over the water in the South West and the Heart of England and even some working abroad.
Members include full-time potters, sculptors and students.
We organise a full programme of events for members including demonstrations, 'skill-share' sessions and wood-kiln firings from our brick kiln. Members receive the popular “Shards” newsletter throughout the year.
We also have a busy exhibitions programme, giving members an opportunity to showcase and sell their work.
We welcome everyone interested in ceramics, whether you are a maker or not.

...and a few words from from our Hon. President, Walter Keeler

There is in Britain, a very close knit community of potters into which I was drawn from my earliest student days.

Even for the most experienced, pottery is fraught with pitfalls and unanticipated disasters, yet in times of despair there is always support from those who, in any other business, would be competitors.

This spirit of fraternal generosity is evident in the way that groups of enthusiasts draw together to share skills, experience, technical knowledge and indefatigable enthusiasm, whether they are beginners at a night class or renowned professionals they are somehow all in it together.

It was a little sobering to be invited to be Hon. President of SWP (am I really that old?) but I was delighted to accept.

Our 48 year history

We are in the process of writing a history of South Wales Potters from our archives. If you would like to contribute to this with reminiscences, pictures or text, please contact our Publicity officer, Maggie White - see the contacts page for details.
